Dr Hannelie Nel is Managing Director of Tennelli Industries (Pty) Ltd, a company that focuses on innovation in engineering and education; and currently she serves as Visiting Associate Professor at North-West University and Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg.
Hannelie was the former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at UJ and during her tenure she founded the Women in Engineering and the Built Environment programme (WiEBE) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in partnership with Group Five. WiEBE were the pioneers in recognizing technical women for their contribution to industry with the introduction of the UJ-Group Five Excellence in Engineering and Technology Awards for technical women in South Africa.
During her professional career she has received various national awards for her contribution to industry and academia, and was nominated as Finalist in the 2014 Standard Bank Top Women in Business Awards in South Africa. Other awards include the 2013 WiEBE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Women in Engineering and the 2011 IEEE WIE Award for Human Capital Development in Science, Engineering and Technology in South Africa.
Hannelie is an international author and keynote speaker in her field and has published two books to date, including Leadership and Agency by Women Engineers in South Africa. She is Board Member of two companies and an associate member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa.
